In the Truckee Meadows, climate impacts bring increased urban heat, more severe public health burdens and increasing costs to repair and maintain infrastructure.
Nature-based solutions (AKA green infrastructure) like community forests, bioswales and rain gardens, living roofs, community gardens, permeable pavements, and restored wetlands and streams are proven, multi-benefit assets that help cities manage heat, water, air quality, and equity challenges with a return that “gray” infrastructure rarely delivers on its own.
The Washoe Sustainability Fund is designed to attract donations and support the development and construction of green infrastructure projects like the following:
- Community Forestry. Trees are among the most cost-effective climate tools our region can deploy at scale to cool neighborhoods, cut energy demand, improve air quality and public health, raise property values, and build community connections.
